In the spirit of Thanksgiving this week, I decided to write a post expressing my gratitude to the following four professionals that have helped me and my business. So without further ado:
Four Professionals I’m Thankful For
(and you could be too)
1) Sean Sullivan, B.Sc.
Entertainment Editor for the Gauntlet, Videographer
Sean is one of my best friends, and as such he has the unfortunate position of being my second set of eyes whenever I need something looked over. One of the things he catches me doing the most often is the ‘Oxford Comma’.
- Definition: “A comma used after the penultimate item in a list of three or more items, before ‘and’ or ‘or’
- What an oxford comma looks like: Today I want to talk about Sean, Jack, Mavy, and Todd.
- What the sentence should look like: Today I want to talk about Sean, Jack, Mavy and Todd.
Sean is also my videographer. You can see one of the many videos we have done together here. While Sean works as a journalist and videographer (Find him on LinkedIn), he is currently back in school getting his Masters in English with the hope of writing a novel. You can read about his adventures on Twitter here, or see his many stunning photographs on Flickr.
2) Jack Giesen
Content Creator and Member of the Chic Geek and IABC/Calgary
Jack is my colleague, friend and partner-in-crime at IABC/Calgary. Jack is currently working as a freelancer while getting her Bachelor of Arts in Professional Communications (B.A.P.C.) from Royal Roads University and volunteers with The Chic Geek and IABC/Calgary. She and I are organizing the highly anticipated joint IABC-CPRS Christmas Party this year (you should come). She is extremely organized and is always there to keep everyone on track and in good humour.
You can find Jack at jackgiesen.com or connect with her on LinkedIn or Twitter. She will also be teaching a WordPress class on November 18 and 19.
3) Mahvish Khan, M. EDES – ID, B.FA
Masters in Environmental and Industrial Design
Mavy was formally trained as an environmental designer, but picked up graphic design along the way. She is responsible for most of the Adobe Illustrator, inDesign and Photoshop knowledge that I have. Which means that she is indirectly responsible for my new twitter background. Isn’t it lovely? It also only represents a fraction of her many skills she learned during her Masters degree.
Mavy is looking for work in Calgary. If you miss out on an opportunity to hire her now, you may find her out of reach back in Toronto! You can find her full portfolio on LinkedIn.
4) Todd Willsie
Founder and President of Renegade Pixel, Website Designer
Everything you see here is because of Todd. I was in a tight spot when he was first referred to me, and not only did he get my website up in two days (Two Days!) but he was highly efficient and fairly priced. Whenever I have a question or a problem with the website he is always there to help set it right. As you slowly see my website evolving and changing, know that it is really Todd running around in the background making website magic.
You can find Todd at his website Renegade Pixel, his blog Willsie.net and on Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn.
Wow! Great professionals to love and have in your circle Shannon, you feel supported and thats a wonderful thing in business! I would love to talk to Sean about my overuse of semi-colons! lol..
Thank you! I agree. I am very grateful for these four, they have really be instrumental in moving my business forward. I can put you in contact with Sean if you like – even editors have editors.
